Project Description

Gender equality

Women with down syndrome face double discrimination because of their gender and their disability. This double discrimination affects not only public aspects of life such as access to the labor market, a fair salary or equal representation in areas of political participation and decision making, but also private aspects of life such as the use of their sexual and reproductive rights. Also, women with intellectual disabilities are especially vulnerable to gender violence.

In Down Catalonia, we promote the empowerment of women with disabilities to guarantee their rights and access to the same educational, labor and social opportunities as others; promote their leadership and equip them with tools and resources to identify, denounce and combat any situation of discrimination.
