In 2017 the creation of an Institutional Gender Equality Plan was initiated that is planned to be completed in 2018. This Equality Plan includes a gender diagnosis in of the internal functioning of Down Catalunya and its federated entities; discussion groups and training workshops with beneficiaries, families and technical teams, as well as on-site observation of the intervention with users, among other actions.
The objective is to obtain a Gender Equality Plan that can be a framework of transversal reference that permeates all the intervention programs of the entities of Down Catalunya and could allow to advance in the promotion of gender equality inside the organizations (technical and management teams, structure of organization, internal functioning) and also in direct interventions with users aimed at promoting their personal autonomy.
With this initiative we want to improve and strengthen our associative work through a better incorporation of the gender perspective, both internally and in the design, planning and execution of interventions aimed at people with intellectual disabilities. In both areas, we try to disassemble gender stereotypes that limit the development of individual qualities and abilities – regardless of sex – as well as the gender roles that affect, among other aspects, the sexual division of labor.
